  • How Much Should We Pay Fitters?

    There are a few schools of thought on the way and how much to pay fitters. We, as a company, have all our fitting teams on the CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) system, which works very well for us.

    We run 12 fitting teams, which are mainly a man and lad and a few are 2 men and a lad (a girl would be welcome, but not many takers). We haven’t lost or changed any of our teams for quite a few years, so I presume they are happy working for us.

    Through the CIS system, there are quite a few legal things we have to do. For example, we have all the fitters on contract, they have to supply all their own tools and fitting equipment (fixings, silicone, cleaners, etc), they have to hire our vans off us, pay for their own petrol, etc, etc. They have to do all…

  • No Need To Have A WER

    The following letter has been sent to FENSA installers (click on the link): FENSA August2010 The key message is that there is now a very easy way for installers to comply from the 1st October as follows:

    Compliance Against a Minimum U Value a) Simple Method If you are installing a PVC or a timber and the frame is fitted with sealed units which make use of soft-coat Low E Glass, warm edge spacer (minimum 16mm) and 90% argon gas, Then FENSA will consider without further evidence that the U value of 1.6 has been achieved i.e there will be no need to provide further evidence to the consumer or to the FENSA inspector, providing there is no evidence to suggest that our assumption is incorrect. (In timber windows the depth of the frame from front to back must be a minimum of 70mm).
